Great Britain reveals U12 European Championship Roster

Saturday 9 June 2018 - reporting Tom Flack

The British Baseball Federation is excited to announce the Great Britain (GB) roster for July’s U12 European Championship. This marks the return of the GB team following a hiatus of more than a decade. It is also one of four CEB events for Great Britain Baseball this summer, with U15, U18 and U23 teams also set to visit the continent.

This year’s European Championship will be held in Budapest, Hungary. 14 nations have entered, and will be split into two pools. GB have drawn Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Slovakia complete the lineup.

Unlike other age groups, the U12 Championship takes place every year. No nation has been dominant at this level in recent years, with recent winners including Russia, Czech Republic, Germany and Italy.

The president, for the British Baseball Federation, G Perez said, “with the return of the U12 National Team Programme, we now have a team competing in each age bracket. The mentioned is a great opportunity for GB Baseball and our sport. That is, our U12 team is the initial building block for the long-term future and success of our sport.  Our other age groups (U15, U18, U23 and Seniors) offer the U12 team examples of the competitive spirit, cohesion, team work, and the testament of the GB Way (inspire, develop and perform). The strength and outlook of our National Teams is horizontal, ie rather than one age group looking (vertically) up or down at another team, they stand side by side. Forming a horizontal link of different age groups widens our belief and resolve that not one age group is important, but all age groups are equally important in the development and success of our sport and National Team Programme. Moreover, it equally widens the strength and honour for our National Team players in getting selected to wear the Great Britain Baseball uniform and to represent their country. Game on!”

The competitions website of CEB will feature the full tournament schedule, stats and live play by play feeds for all games.

Great Britain Baseball is administered by the British Baseball Federation and organises national teams at the U12, U15, U18, U23 and Senior levels. The mission of the national teams programme is to Inspire, Develop and Perform. GB Baseball won gold at the first Baseball World Cup in 1938 and silver medals at the 1967 and 2007 European Championships.

Goal £25,000
