THE BRISTOL BADGERS CLINCH THE DOUBLE-A CENTRAL DIVISION IN THIER FIRST YEAR IN THE BBF
by Will Muoio
In the first season in the British Baseball Federation (BBF) senior leagues will be unforgettable for the Bristol Badgers, who clinched the Double-A Central Division regular season title with a perfect undefeated record. Now, the Badgers move on to the postseason. The team joined the BBF from the SWBL, and Club Chairman Richard Evans said, "this move was a way to face better competition."
The Bristol Baseball Club were founded in 2008. "We're excited about the new competition and to join the league," Evans said. He went on to say, "The Badgers roster, are composed of a variety of international players skilled across the board. The Badgers dominated all year their opponents at bat, on the field and had solid production from a vast amount of players."
The Badgers are seeded number one with their undefeated record in the Double-A Postseason.
"Our production was extremely strong in a variety of ways. The development of our players this year was significant. We were looking forward to playing against other teams around our level. So we joined the BBF to play stronger competition, and now we will get the chance to show off our players on a bigger stage," Evans said." For example, this Sunday, the Badgers get to showcase their roster against the Kent Buccaneers (the Double-A South Pool-A Divisional Champions) and which have already won their first playoff game last week in the postseason. Both teams collide in the Double-A Playoffs on Sunday 19th August at Bristol, with the action starting at 12:00.
A spokesperson for the BBF, said, "We are proud to have the Badgers take part in the BBF. The Badgers deserve a lot of recognition for their community development work in Bristol and laying the foundation for a sustainable baseball programme. The key to the Badgers Club success amounts to dedication and resolve which we applaud. Bristol is followed locally in the press, not accustomed to covering baseball, but considering Bristols Club model of competitiveness and professionalism, it is no secret why the local press covers the club. On behalf of the entire BBF, congratulations Bristol on your 10th anniversary and undefeated season."
All eyes will be on Bristol tomorrow, as the Badgers take on the Buccaneers. Entrance is free to attend and expect some great action from two great programmes and teams. To learn more about the Double-A Postseason tournament click link.
